Types of Commercial Construction
Commercial construction projects can be categorised into three levels based on their characteristics. Small Scale, Mid Scale, and Large Scale Commercial Construction. These classifications go beyond size. Consider factors, like complexity, resource allocation, and the timeframe associated with each level.
1. Small-Scale Commercial Construction
Starting small-scale commercial construction involves minimal alterations and requires limited resources. These projects usually involve renovations, repairs, or small extensions that don't significantly change the structure of the existing building. Examples include giving a café a facelift or expanding an office space.
2. Mid-Scale Commercial Construction
Moving up to the level brings us to scale commercial construction. Projects in this category are more complex. Encompass a range of facilities such as retail units or medical centres. They involve upgrades, expansions, or new constructions requiring larger specialised teams and longer timelines. Typically several months, to a year.
3. Large-Scale Commercial Construction
At the top of the construction hierarchy are large-scale projects that entail endeavours. This domain covers creating structures, making changes to existing buildings, and handling complex alterations involving specialised equipment and coordination among different teams. These ambitious projects, such as constructing office buildings, hospitals, residential complexes, or hotels, can take years to complete and require coordination among various teams.
By categorising construction into these three groups, we encompass the scope of the field. This classification provides an understanding of the time, resources, and expertise needed at each stage. It also allows clients to visualise their projects within this framework and align their expectations with reality.
