A new build detached property in an exlusive area in Cobham.
When we arrived at Heath Ridge Green in Cobham, it was a quiet corner development with just three brand-new semi-detached homes. We were contracted to build one of them, and our brief was to deliver a high-spec, elegant house rooted in classical proportions but with a contemporary feel.
From the outset, the ceiling heights required precision. The tall entrance hall, with its marble staircase, had to feel impressive and stable, so we took extra care in matching the joinery to the architectural intent. We used traditional sash windows, but installed triple glazing and sealed them tightly to meet modern thermal standards. The structure went up smoothly: timber-framed, block-insulated, and the underfloor heating system was zoned throughout the ground floor.
The primary focus was the marble-topped kitchen island in the open-plan family room. We teamed up with the kitchen specialist early in the programme to confirm the dimensions and services, ensuring that plumbing and electrics were coordinated, so everything slotted into place during installation. Fitting the Schuco sliding doors required careful lintel support and threshold detailing to ensure a watertight and draft-free seal.
Upstairs, there were four bedrooms, two of which we outfitted with en-suite bathrooms using marble accents and high-end fittings. That involved precise wall tiling and plumbing work; one wrong screw, and the tile joints wouldn’t align. Therefore, we maintained close supervision during the bathroom fit-out.
Outside, we laid the patio and garden lawn, installed two parking bays, and fitted an EV charger. Managing the services, drainage, electric, and external lights neatly tied into the house with minimal disruption to the new driveway and landscaping.
Throughout the build, we held weekly site meetings with the developer and architect to address minor adjustments, typically related to finishes or trims, and to avoid any surprises. There were everyday logistical challenges, such as coordinating delivery slots and trades, but our schedule held firm.
After around ten months on site, we handed over a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home of roughly 2,365 sq ft. For us, that’s precisely how this kind of build should go: traditional in appearance, modern in performance, and built right, from first brick to final coat of paint.
